Undertaking statistical investigations

Undertaking statistical investigations

Students gain a better understanding of the statistical investigative process and are more engaged when they undertake investigations of their own.

Once students have experience in the separate components of statistics investigations (data collection, data representation, data reduction and informal inference), they are ready to undertake entire investigations of their own design.

Student should have the opportunity to:

  • explore questions which interest them
  • plan and carry out data collection
  • summarise, represent and analyse the data
  • make inferences based on the data
  • prepare a report.
