Students need experience in using various sampling strategies to develop an appreciation of when a sample may be biased.

Develop scenarios relating to gathering information that require students to make decisions about how to select a sample.

Use the School Survey Task: Student Worksheet  to stimulate discussions about the differences among:

  • simple random sampling strategies
  • stratified sampling strategies
  • samples of convenience.

Use the School Survey Task: Rubric to determine students' level of understanding demonstrated in their responses to the questions.
