Making mathematical connections

Making mathematical connections

Research shows that the most effective mathematics teachers for developing students' reasoning are connectionists.

A UK study involving more than 2000 students found that the approach to teaching that led to the greatest gains in learning was 'connectionist'.

The connectionist orientation places a strong emphasis on developing reasoning and justification, as students are encouraged to make mathematical connections and to make their thinking about these explicit.
