Maths in Action ~ Applications and Modelling Community
Online Launch via video conference Monday 7 July 2014
PRESENTERS: Peter Galbraith and Vince Geiger

Exploring Real World Problems

Peter Galbraith and Vince Geiger will focus this session on using mathematics to explore real world problems. The aims and objectives of the Maths in Action community will be discussed, including links to the numeracy agenda.
Tasks using modelling and numeracy approaches then follow, with the use of technologies incorporated. Commonalities and differences between approaches to modelling and numeracy instruction will be explored. Implications for practice and connections to the Australian Curriculum will also be considered – including the identification of situations which support applications and modelling approaches.
