Assessing statistical investigations

Assessing statistical investigations

Advice on assessment is included in this year 8 unit of work about statistical investigations. The assessment modes reflect the digital curriculum resources and other ICT materials included in this series of lessons.

The

R11497 Investigating Collecting Data – unit of work easily lends itself to allowing for differentiated learning programs.

Assessment guidelines include:

  • a personal blog
  • oral presentations
  • posters.

In personal blogs, students record anecdotal records of existing knowledge and track their learning journey. A glossary of terms is constructed to support individual development of statistical language.

Group work involves designing a poster to be displayed publicly and giving a two-minute oral presentation relating their personal data to class data, which is ideally supported with digital or video resources.

The Statistical Investigations: Rubric may be used for both the individual or group work.

  • The criterion Forms can relate to any statistical representations used by students and/or the mode of presentation selected, such as a poster.
  • The criterion Knowledge can relate to the particular statistical concept developed throughout the investigation.
